Born and raised in California, Maryland, and the UK. BA, Oxford University; MA, The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
Before retiring to Camarillo, I worked as a civil servant and U.S. diplomat for 35 years. Countries of assignment included China, Japan, Burma, India, Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
Promoting U.S. business and investment interests was a regular part of my responsibilities.
I have a keen interest in education and served as Board Chair of two American international schools. During my last year before retirement, served as Public Diplomat in Residence at USC Center’s on Public Diplomacy at the Annenberg School.
Since moving to Camarillo I have become involved in local activities. I have been a local advocate for community choice energy and joining the Clean Power Alliance (CPA) which Camarillo residents will have the opportunity to join next summer, and served three years as President of the Ventura County Chinese American Association (VCCAA).
I am a seasoned negotiator, project manager, and problem solver. I believe that these skills would be valuable in the work of the City Council.
I am married to Dr. Yong Ping Chen, and the proud father of three adult children.
